While a visit to the Mouse is on the list for a lot of vacationers heading to Orlando any time of year, there are other things to do in October in Orlando and attractions, many full of Halloween spirit and fall fun, to fill your time. No matter how you celebrate the fall season, there’s something in Orlando in October for everyone!
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
The Orlando Repertory Theatre’s Stephen Pugh will lead you and other audience members into the spooky goings-on of the quaint old village of Sleepy Hollow. The one-man adaptation of the classic Halloween tale runs October 9-31 at the theatre at 1001 E. Princeton Street in Orlando. Advanced tickets are available online, as well as the schedule of showtimes.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
A long-time Halloween cult-favorite show, few consider their Halloween holiday complete without at least one viewing. This year, spice up the spook with an interactive version of the castle full of odd-ball characters. Costumes of your favorite characters are strongly encouraged, and prop bags will be available for purchase at the event. Shows are Saturday, October 30 at 10 p.m. and Sunday, October 31 at 8 p.m. at Garden Theatre at 160 W. Plant Street in Winter Garden. Pre-show fun and hijinks start 30 minutes before each show.
Halloween Horror Nights
Teens and adults can visit Universal Resort Orlando after dark now through October 31 for the scare of a lifetime. It’s the 30th anniversary of the park’s Halloween Horror Nights, and they’re pulling out all the stops to spook you. There are a number of haunted houses from Halloween Horror Night icons like Puppet Theater: Captive Audience, or Revenge of the Tooth Fairy. Enjoy another spine-tingler like The Haunting of Hill House, Beetlejuice, or the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The event is going on now until October 31. Ticket prices and times vary. Shows may not be suitable for children under 13. This is one of the best things to do in October in Orlando!
Howl-O-Scream
This is another mature audience-only event. Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld is in its first year of fright. Evade spooks as they rampage through “scare zones” and “roaming haunts” that follow you everywhere you go! Climb on the nighttime coaster ride, see a live monstrous show, and try to resist the haunting song of “the one who has emerged from the lake.” The event is on select Thursday-Sunday nights now to October 31. Hours are 7 p.m. – midnight on Thursdays and Sundays and 7 p.m. – 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It is a ticketed event and tickets can be purchased on the SeaWorld Orlando website for $31.99. The mature audience’s only event contains blood, gore, violence, and other adult content. Please DO NOT wear a costume at this event.

Gators, Ghosts, and Goblins
If you’re looking for a heart-pounding thrill beyond the fright of seeing alligators spring from the water to snap food from trainers, or a trainer wrestle the beasts, then head to Gatorland for a scare. This year, make the 3rd annual Halloween celebration perfect for all ages a part of your October plans. The daytime bash features multiple themed haunt zones, interactive characters, animal meet-and-greets, the Crocs and Cryptids Zone, Swamp Ghost’s Monster Museum, and more. The event is suitable for all ages, and kids can even dress in costume and take part in the Children’s Halloween Costume Parade complete with treat bags. The event runs October 9-31 on Saturdays and Sundays during park hours.
